Mr Hung Hak-hip Peter is a chartered accountant and Honorary Chairman of Hop Hing Group Holdings Limited (Hop Hing Group). Mr Hung joined Hop Hing Group in 1975, and contributed substantially to the Group’s successful public listing. He assumed Chairmanship of the Group in 1990, a position he retained until his retirement in 2016. Mr Hung has made a tremendous contribution to the food industry, and remains a Permanent Honorary President of The Chinese Manufacturer’s Association of Hong Kong. In addition to his remarkable success in his business ventures, Mr Hung has dedicated himself to the needs of future generations, largely through philanthropic ventures such as Youth Arch Foundation, and the Lion & Globe Educational Trust enhancing the education of the young, giving skills and hope to countless students. Mr Hung’s generous endowment to the Chinese University of Hong Kong through the Faculty of Medicine to support medical research projects has resulted in the birth of this research institute to study pain and its treatment. The research projects adopt a multi-disciplinary treatment approach harnessing the disciplines of engineering, bioengineering and medicine to explore the potential of neuromodulation and other clinical interventions to treat pain. The primary aim of the institute and its research projects is to develop preventive measures and novel treatments for pain. To honor Mr Hung’s generosity, the institute is named “The Peter Hung Pain Research Institute”. In recognition of his achievements and generous contributions to society and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Honorary Fellowship of the Chinese University of Hong Kong was presented to Mr Hung in June 2021.
